Berkshire House

Maidenhead, Berkshire SL6, 2013
Berkshire House sits at the very heart of Maidnehead and towers above the town centre. The scheme consists of reinvigorating the existing 1960’s office building with the addition of two new upper storeys to create a community of 68 new residential units. Complete with communal facilities, bicycle and car spaces the result is a stylish residential experience with unparalleled panoramic views from the 14th floor terrace. Berkshire House is the tallest building in Maidenhead and is fronted by streets on 3 sides. The site was purchased due to its central location and proximity to the new high-speed link to Central London. The building has been developed to a high specification in accordance with the Essential Living brand. The new architecture has had to respond to the sensitive nature of the Conservation area that this landmark building occupies along with the demands of modern living. The removal of all the external cladding enabled the introduction of a fully insulated façade to meet current thermal and acoustic performance levels. Extensive collaborative work was required with facade consultants and sub-contractors to deliver a lightweight cladding solution. Technical detailing solutions were required to upgrade internal floors to the demands of new residential apartments without overloading the existing concrete frame. New lightweight balconies provide all residents with private amenity space.
