Brunswick Square

Homefield Rise, Orpington town Centre, Bromley, BR, 2014
The Brunswick Square development provides 83 new homes along with a health + wellbeing centre for the NHS on the site of the former police station, Orpington. The station was decommissioned in 2013 prior to the scheme being given the go-ahead, forming part of the continued regeneration of Orpington town centre. The development occupies a central location, offering convenience for inhabitants whilst also re-activating the adjacent town square through the public amenities on the ground floor. Using a varied material palette of different brick tones against rainscreen cladding, the form is articulated vertically to emulate tall townhouses. The building steps back sequentially to create private residential roof terraces as well as serviced green and brown flat roofs. Brick details such as hitínímiss and banding add further visual interest, while crisp metal detailing of the bolt-on-balconies is offset to great effect.
